Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a safe, easy, and affordable method to eliminate unwanted hair when performed by qualified laser technicians and clinics. Laser technology is the best alternative to plucking, shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. Almost any area can be treated. This includes the mustache, beard, neck, chest, back, arms, legs, buttocks, ears, underarms, nostrils, and bikini area.

RejuvaDERM offers the most effective laser hair removal available. Treatment is performed by trained specialists to ensure your hair removal treatments are performed safely and you achieve the best results at each treatment session.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Depending on the type of laser being used, hair removal works in different ways. At RejuvaDERM, our lasers target the pigment/color (known as melanin) in the hair. This causes the hair to fall out and prevents it from re-growing. It may be necessary to treat a particular area several times to permanently remove most of the hair in that area because at any given time, not all hairs are in its growing phase and lasers are most effective at targeting the growing hairs. White, blonde, and grey hair have no pigment and are a bit more difficult to treat. It is important to know: not all lasers are the same! Not all lasers produce the same results!

How Effective Is Laser Hair Removal? How Many Laser Hair Removal Treatments Will I Need?

Most patients will lose 20-30% of hair volume with each treatment. Typically patients will see results in 4-7 treatments, although this number will vary based upon the laser, skin color, hair color, and several other factors. The effectiveness increases with more treatments.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

In practice, no laser destroys 100% of the hairs. Some hair follicles are destroyed, while others are reduced to fine hairs or left in prolonged dormancy. However, the remaining hairs that grow are finer and lighter in color. It is possible that with a sufficient number of treatments, true ’permanent hair removal’ can be achieved, but not for every single hair present in a given area. It is important to realize that today all the lasers FDA approved are for ’permanent hair reduction’ and not ’permanent hair removal’ which is advertised by many clinics. Age, ethnicity, weight, metabolism, medication, and hormones all play a role in the location, resilience, and thickness of the hair.

How Often are Treatments Done?

Every 4-6 weeks depending on the area being treated.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

This treatment causes minimal discomfort. It is less painful than waxing or electrolysis. To make the laser treatment more comfortable, our lasers feature an integrated cooling system.

Side-effects are uncommon when performed by qualified laser clinics like at RejuvaDERM. Short-term side effects may include slight reddening of the skin or local swelling, which typically lasts less than an hour.

Complications

While complications are rare, complications can include burns and scarring. Thus at RejuvaDERM, we stress the importance of having laser hair removal performed by a trained medical professional supported by Dermatologists.

How Does RejuvaDERM’s Hair Removal Laser Differ From The Competitors?

At Rejuvaderm we use the most effective laser available to remove unwanted hair for all skin colors, the GentleMax Pro by Syneron Candela. The GentleMax Pro Laser has 2 lasers in one unit: Alexandrite which is used for patients with light skin color and Nd:Yag which is used for patients who have a darker skin color. The most effective lasers for hair removal are the Alexandrite and the Diode lasers and now with the new Alexandrite technology, most doctors believe the Alexandrite is the most effective. For patients with darker skin types, the safest laser for hair removal is the Nd:Yag which penetrates a little deeper into the skin thereby reducing the chance of burns and other complications including permanent white or dark areas to the skin. The only disadvantage to the Nd:Yag for laser hair removal is it might require a few more treatments than the Alexandrite. At Rejuvaderm, we will properly assess your skin type and review with you which laser wavelength is safest for your skin before treatment.

High-quality lasers are very expensive. Some spas use light sources or IPL devices that they advertise for laser hair removal but unfortunately, these are not very effective for hair removal and can be dangerous if not used properly, burns and scarring often and unfortunately do occur.
