Dr. Abbas began her medical education at the University of Saskatchewan where she completed her medical degree (MD) in 2013. After graduating from medical school, Dr. Abbas specialized in Dermatology, completing a 5-year residency at the University of Alberta, focused only on the skin. During her Dermatology training, she served as the Chief Resident (2016-2017) and earned accolades for both her collegiate leadership as well as her scholastic contributions to dermatological research. Her accolades include: the World Congress of Dermatology scholarship, Early Dermatology Research Scholarship, Jackie Calvert Award, Womens Dermatology Society Mentorship award and the University of Alberta Stephen Buhl and Jenkinson Award recipient (an award representing her leadership abilities, collegiality and contributions made to the well-being of other physician-residents).
Dr. Abbas has contributed extensively to the field of Medical Dermatology with a special interest in clinical trials and contact dermatitis (ie. allergens/haptens that come in contact with the skin and cause dermatitis). She has published extensively in the area of contact dermatitis. She also serves as a clinical investigator for Dermatology research trials. She is a reviewer for peer reviewed Dermatology journals and enjoys working with the Canadian Eczema Care Society.
Dr. Abbas is passionate about advocating for skin cancer awareness, for which she has worked closely with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) Sun Safe initiative, providing her expertise and care. Dr. Abbas strives her best to provide underserved populations in Saskatchewan and Alberta with the highest quality of care. Dr. Abbas also offers care to populations without direct access to a Dermatologist through teledermatology, a practice where she is able to assess, manage and treat patients through digital outlets. Dr. Abbas and her colleagues are the only Dermatologists in Grande Prairie and its surrounding areas.
In addition to her extensive work in Medical Dermatology and research, Dr. Abbas is also passionate about providing safe and effective cosmetic Dermatology treatments. She enjoys constructing a catered plan for each patient when it comes to administration of injectables, filler and laser treatments. She strives to ensure not only exceptional results but that the safety of her patients is always meticulously prioritized.
